Advertising informationThis section will take a new look at all Supply Chain issues and focus on the effects they are having on people, non human species and the planet. The work will be informed by the Doctoral Research of Miriam Kennet a Director of the Institute and by the current discourse in the literature of Supply Chain Management- some of it focusing on Corporate Social Responsibility which the CIPS organisation (Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply in the UK ) is highlighting to all its members. All UK buyers are asked to consider the governance aspects of their work and the social effects in an effort to start to address the effects of this part of economic activity.
Miriam prepared a paper for a workshop of the European Institute of Purchasing Management in March in Archamps in France
There is also a discourse about economics and ethics, ethics of the firm and Green Procurement, but this latter has been largely focusing on environmental issues rather than the broader economic landscape which creates the restrictions. The institute's research in this area will broaden the debate to investigate the economics, the mechanics of how social and environmental degradation and standards become lowered and the mechanics of how supply chain practitioners can make a difference. The aim will be to provide them with the tools to do so.
