-------- Original Message -------- Subject: FW: Samantha Orobator

Dear all,

As you may know, I am currently in Laos with Reprieve fighting to get Samantha Orobator, a young pregnant Briton in prison here brought home. For latest press coverage see *http://tinyurl.com/cwtkqo* and see Reprieve press releases at www.reprieve.org.uk. We have already had some success in that the Laos government told us yesterday that she would not get the death penalty.

Samantha has been in jail since August 2008. She became pregnant whilst in jail in circumstances that are unclear. It is reported to be her second pregnancy in prison, she has apparently already suffered one miscarriage.

Phonthong Prison where she is being held is notorious for prisoner abuse and harsh living conditions with limited access to appropriate food rations and basic medical care. See US State Department Report 2009; http://www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/hrrpt/2008/eap/119045.htm

This is an unprecedented situation as we understand her to be the first pregnant Briton in a foreign prison. There is a real chance that she could be brought home. the Laos PM is visiting London on Thursday to meet Bill Rummell and hopefully will sign the first treaty for prisoner exchange between the two governments, which should apply to Samantha if she is convicted and sentenced.

We need to put as much pressure as physically possible on the FCO. We really only have today and tomorrow to make this happen, so I need your urgent help.

Reprieve have set up a facebook page http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=logo#/event.php?eid=79827016596=nf . Please post to your profile, email to your friends and generally push push push. There will also be a No.10 petition for everyone to sign shortly.

If you have campaigning links, please circulate this email widely. We also encourage people to write letters or email David Milliband demanding that she be brought home under the treaty immediately; milibandd@parliament.uk

More updates will follow. Thanks for all the messages of love and support.

Anna
