Course Admission Requirements for 2012

Previous degree qualifications at undergraduate level or equivalent

Typically our students come from a range of academic disciplines- Economics, Geography, International Development, Law, Medicine, Global Health, Engineering, Planning and Built Environment, Sustainability, International Business and international trade, and any foreign languages and IT or communication as well as marketing are all very popular at the moment as foundational degrees from applicants.

The course will be taught in the UK but will also make full use of current IT so some work will be done over IP protocols depending on requirements.

Course admission Process

Accordingly-requirements are generally:

Course admission requirement for everyone

1.A good first degree from a recognised University in any country in the world. 2.A transcript of your academic results from the undergraduate degree which you can obtain by asking the University for that.

3. We are above all looking for good attitude in our course participants and therefore are asking you to submit a "Statement of Purpose" which is a 3 page essay on why you are applying for the course, split half between- a) why you think the course will help you in life and b) what you personally can offer the course and the other participants and what makes you particularly unique and helpful. This paper can be done during the application process and has to be done before joining. But can be done in January 2012.

4. We will need a scan copy of your passport ( and visa if required).

5.Initially we will speak to you over skpe, or telephone or email to discuss your requirements and tell you about the course. PLEASE DO NOT DELAY with this as we need to activate this part first.

6. Then you need to fill in the application form from the University and these are available now.

Course admission requirements- non EU

English requirements

1. A good command of English language as the course will be taught in English.

a) Either: This command of English needs to be evidenced for non EU students with either an undergraduate degree from an english speaking country- listed as Australia, Canada, USA or the UK

or :

b)A certificate of IELTS

or:

TEFL

or: Pearson English qualification

We are especially keen to ensure the course is international and will be recruiting many students for whom english is NOT their first language to ensure this -so please ask us for help in meeting this requirement.

Visa help

1. If you are from outside the EU then you need to get a visa to enter the UK. We can help you do that and issue you with an TASS acceptance letter from the University in order to help you obtain your visa. However this can take up to 4 weeks so in order for you to get the visa in time to start the course, it is imperative you email us now to let us know that you are interested and we will start the process of helping you get your visa.

Bank statement 28 day rule for non EU students

1.If you are coming from outside the EU you need to show the UK government border agency that you have the complete fees in your bank account -and also £5400 for a years subsistence- ( food and lodging) in your bank account for 28 days BEFORE applying for your visa.It is therefore imperative at this stage to do this and to ensure you have a bank account with your name on and that you can organise to be able to send the bank statement showing this to us -before the university can issue you with the offer in January 2012 in time to get you on the course.

Course start Dates

The dates for 2012 first ever cohort are : 1. Cohort one a) -January 20th 2012 with Induction Week from the 15th January 2012 for one week in the UK.

2.Cohort one b) - February 20th 2012 with Inducation Days from 20th February 2012.

Length of Masters Course

Cohort 1

1 Spring 2012 Start: January 2012 or February 2012 For either 1 year full time or 2 years part time a) Classes-Semester 1 : January to July 2012

These classes consist of

1 week of inducation in January 2012

1 week of introduction February 2012

4 modules simultaneously for the semester length

b)Classes Semester 2: September 2012 to January 2013

4 modules simultaneously for the semester length

a)Field Trips a) Germany May 2012 and b) UK July 2012

b) Internship May, June, July 2012 UK

c) Attendance at Green Economics Institute Annual Global Green Economics Institute Conference held at Oxford University Conference July 19th -21st 2012

d) Study- writing - dissertation or article for publication January 2013 - March 2013

e) Accreditation to The Professional Green Economics Institute qualifications on completion of the course. March 2012

f) Awards of the Green Economics Institute at Green Economics Institute annual conference held at Oxford University, July 2013

g) Awards of Masters Degree- graduation ceremony. Birmingham City University May 2013.

Cohort 2 :Autumn 2012 start: September 2012 - June 2013

1. Cohort two a) -September 2012 with Induction Week from the September 20th 2012 for one week in the UK.

We are now for 2012 offering places on the worlds first ever Green Economics Masters run with a University in the UK.
